Reference: Samui Rock Bar

A bar or dining room set into rocks at the water, not a beach club with a DJ brand. Both of these are known locally. Neither is an empty secret cove.

Koh Samui west coast

Crowd level: Mixed. Go early, or pick a weekday

Best season Dry season, late afternoon. The rocks are the daytime visit. The bar is the reason to stay. Confirm they are open.

A small bar built in among the rocks beside Hin Ta and Hin Yai, the grandfather and grandmother stones at Lamai. Their own site puts it on a cove and says they play reggae from the afternoon. It is a known stop, not an empty beach.

Worth knowing

  • Finding it

Use the grandfather and grandmother rocks as the landmark, then the path beside them. Their site gives a GPS point. A blog's parking fee is not repeated here.

The short version

The grandfather and grandmother rocks are the landmark. The bar sits on the path beside them. The operators describe a driftwood and rock layout and a private strip of sand. This is a bar, not a historic shrine.

Their site says they serve food with the drinks. Go for the setting. Do not treat a third-party price list as a menu.

Food
Restaurante Azenhas do Mar

Crowd level: Mixed. Go early, or pick a weekday

Best season A weekday outside August. High tide shrinks the beach. The village is the view even when you cannot swim.

A cliff village with a restaurant at the water and a rock pool the tide fills. The restaurant says it stands on an old mill site and has been in this spot since the late 1960s. The pool is the ocean, not a club.

Worth knowing

  • Tide

Visit Sintra says the sand can vanish at high tide. The restaurant has listed hours of 12:00–22:30. Check both the tide and the booking.

The short version

The name means watermills of the sea. The restaurant's own history says the room is based on an old mill, with photographs from 1912, and that the bathing installation was licensed in 1968. Visit Sintra notes how little sand there is, and that it can disappear at high tide.

The restaurant is the point of the pattern: a table in the rocks beside the pool. Their site lists daily hours. Those can change. Book if you want the window.
