Crowd level: Easy. Busy only at the obvious hour
Best season April–June and September. The park at sunset is the local ritual. Weekend afternoons are lively, not jammed.
Belleville is a hill of parks, markets, and grocers in several languages. The view back toward the city is wide, and you are not standing in a pen to see it. Eat where the lunch line is local, then walk down.
The short version
Belleville is an old village absorbed into Paris, still a hill of markets and apartment streets. A plaque on Rue de Belleville marks Édith Piaf’s birthplace. The exact step is debated. The hill is not.

A one-script lunch on the slope
Chinese, Tunisian, or West African rooms share the hill. Eat where the menu is one script and the room is full at noon. A couscous or a noodle soup beats any café facing the tower.

Red Star FC at Stade Bauer
Red Star, founded in 1897, plays at Stade Bauer in Saint-Ouen, a short metro north. It is not in Belleville, and it is nothing like PSG. Cheap, loud, and actually Parisian.
